I remember our first year homeschooling my daughter was a bit disappointed that she didn’t have the typical class Valentine’s Day party. Passing out and receiving valentines was something my daughter had always enjoyed. There are very few things we miss about public school, but class holiday celebrations would be one of them. But just because your kiddos are not in a traditional classroom setting does not mean that they have to miss out on the enjoyment of passing out valentines. I’ve come up with a list of 7 ways homeschool kids can enjoy passing out cards on Valentines Day. Making the cards is best, but if you don’t have time, or are not that crafty be sure to check my link at the bottom of the page to get access to 2 different sets of printable Valentine’s Day Cards.
Family & Friends – Deliver (or mail) cards to grandparents, great-grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and family friends.
Neighbors – Take a walk down your street and deliver cards and treats to your neighbors.
Church – Have your kids bring valentines with them the Sunday before Valentine’s Day and pass them out to their class or friends at church.
Nursing/Retirement Home – Go to a local nursing or retirement home in your town and pass out cards to the residents.
Hospital – Visit the pediatric unit of your local hospital and hand out Valentine’s Day cards to the children at the hospital. Stickers are a great “treat” to bring along to pass out.
Soldiers – Brighten a soldier’s day by sending cards to soldier’s who are deployed. Cards typically take a few months to reach the soldiers so this one does take some prior planning. We did this a few years back and really enjoyed it. Since we knew it would be way past Valentine’s Day when they arrived we made the cards patriotic in theme. Check out these organizations to find out how to get involved sending cards/letters to soldiers.
Anyone you come into contact with that day – Have your kids hand them out to the grocery clerk, fast-food cashier’s, gas station attendants, basically anyone you come into contact with during your day. You could even stick one in the mailbox for the mailman.
